As noted elsewhere in this forum, Obama has nominated another Chicago leftist, Cass Sunstein, to be head of the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. Sunstein's ideas on controlling the internet, including email, as well as on many other subjects are completely over the top and un-American. The problem is that so many of Obama's appontments, executive orders, etc, are flying under the radar as each new "crisis" is used to divert attention, that almost no one is even aware of what is happening. The cumulative effect of each small thing won't be realized until the proverbial frog wakes up just in time to notice that he is fatally trapped in the boiling water.

Connecticut's legislature is to vote on that state opting out of the Electoral College and forcing the state's electoral votes to be cast for the nationwide popular vote leader, possibly in disregard for how their citizens voted.

Four states now allow homosexual marriage. Three states, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Iowa, have done so by judicial fiat. Vermont is the only state to have done so through legislation which will take effect on September 1st.

Obviously, many more such items across the spectrum could be listed, but you get the idea.

Some are hoping that a backlash is developing that will blunt this administration's efforts along with other widespread efforts that are slowly destroying America. This is a dubious hope, at best.

The willingness of even such supposedly deliberative and informed bodies as state legislatures to throw overboard one of the most fundamental ideas of the Founders; the Electoral College, or to pass a law that destroys the basic building block of a culture, that is, the nuclear family serves to prove the point. From whence will the backlash come when so many Americans, including our very leaders, have lost their cultural and civic moorings to the point that we obviously have?

It would be a good bet that implementing the election of the president by popular vote would win easily if a nationwide vote were to be held as the blithely uninformed citizens of America would vote for what, to them, is obviously a more pure form of democracy, as if that were a desirable goal. And even though most Americans still reject the idea of "gay" marriage, we are still apparently hamstrung in our efforts to stem the tide.

It can only be hoped that Americans wake up in time and that a backlash of the numbers required to have any effect does occur. But, a serious fear is that we have passed the tipping point and that our population is ready for a demagogue like Obama to impose a soft tyranny upon us with which we are totally unprepared to deal. Between the shift in our demographics over the last fifty years and the steady leftist drumbeat played in our schools and media, which has dulled the minds of so many, there are precious few left with the knowledge and the means to form such a backlash. And, by the time Obama is through, the momentum of the snowball rolling down the hill will render it unstoppable until it reaches the bottom.

The secular progressives are seriously winning. We need an inspirational and powerful leader on the right who combines a charismatic manner with the courage to completely shed the PC language that keeps us trapped into accepting the left's lies. We need to return, as a culture, to a public standard of decency which redefines deviancy back up. We need to regain our moral compass. All this must be embodied in a leader who could wake us up and lead us back to our founding principles.

When the morals and ethics of a nation are defined on the basis of political and social expediency and upon the individual's desire to be excused from the tyranny of the conscience and the responsibility of deciding right from wrong, political tyranny is assured.

In short, as Jefferson noted in other writings would be required, we need a revolution which would quite literally overthrow the existing government so that we can reinstall the Founders' intentions. If we don't do this, we are truly on the eve of destruction. The real question is, do we, as a people, truly want to be free, or are we too far gone in our pursuit of security and enslavement to material and moral decadence that we don't care?
