I wonder if our new president understands that the military is not a social club, or a platform for social engineering? The latest plan to end the present "don't ask, don't tell" policy will allow openly homosexual people to serve in the military.

Say what you will, but no one can change human nature. And as the military becomes more and more an organization of multicultural, politically correct tolerance, and social engineering, it is bound to suffer. As merit tests for being a good soldier are reduced in importance in order to make believe that anyone can be a good soldier and that things like troop morale and cohesion are controllable by fiat, our military becomes less fit and less desirable for the truly qualified people to join.

In a utopian reality, a world where performance differences did not exist between various types and groups of people, such policies would be consistent. Unfortunately, we do not live in a utopian world, and making believe we do produces rude awakenings which never come at a good time.

The more our culture accepts and even demands that we eliminate the need to discriminate, even when discrimination is a required and necessary thing to do, the weaker our foundations as a culture become.

Consider the economic meltdown we are currently experiencing. It is blamed on the greed of fatcat bankers and other causes which all ensure that the true causes are not addressed. The core reason for the meltdown goes back to the Fair Housing Act passed under Carter in 1977 and extended by Clinton in the 90s. The government forced the banks to loan money to people whom the banks knew could not repay. The banks were offered carrot and stick incentives by the government and soon figured out how to run the scam of packaging up these loans as derivitaves and offloading them to speculators. Of course greed was involved. It was greed on the parts of many. But the root cause was in the make believe utopia that we continue to try to implement... in many ways.

Kill "don't ask, don't tell." Reduce other standards as retaining "a few good men" becomes steadily more difficult. Cut defense spending in the name of other social programs. And one day we will wake up to realize that we have killed one of the last things that we can still point to with pride. All in the name of the liberal make believe utopian world which we ever more readily accept under the various BS cliches of the left.

Change we can believe in, my a**.
